Orientation on the Marrakesh Treaty Accession and way Forward Related Consultation Meeting with Different Stakeholders and VIPS Members

On 21st March, Tuesday afternoon, VIPS organized an orientation on the Marrakesh Treaty accession and way forward related consultation meeting with different stakeholders and VIPS members. Vashkar Bhattacharjee, National Consultant – Accessibility at a2i Programme, ICT Division, was present as a resource person, and Zafor Raja Chowdhury, former register of copyright, was present as a consultant at this event.  Subrata Bhawmik, – Joint Secretary copyright and intellectual property rights division under the cultural affairs ministry, was present as an honorable chief guest, along with other distinguished guests. Participants from various organizations and VIPS members were aware of the current status of Marrakesh Treaty and the incorporation of the Convention into the Bangladesh Copyright Act at this orientation consultation meeting. They also expressed their views and thoughts on the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty and its importance for implementation in the Copyright Act of Bangladesh. This consultation meeting included a sign language interpreter for participants with speech and hearing disabilities. This meeting was attended by 54 ( F-25, M-44)  people, including distinguished guests, representatives from disabled people’s organizations, mainstream national and international level development organizations, and VIPS members. Also, the consultation meeting was streamed live to 1500 Facebook users via the VIPS Facebook page, including print media. In this consultation meeting, a mass signature program was conducted under the slogan wanting the implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty in Bangladesh, in which 45 participants signed.
