Our History

Visually Impaired People’s Society (VIPS), established on January 4, 2005, is a leading national rights-based organization in Bangladesh for individuals with visual and other disabilities. VIPS advocates for equal rights, focusing on education, employment, and public life inclusion. Through capacity-building programs, including computer training, mobility techniques, and digital marketing, VIPS empowers individuals with disabilities to lead independent lives. With 216 members and an Executive Committee, VIPS works closely with government bodies to influence policy. The organization operates under national regulatory frameworks, ensuring transparency, accountability, and fostering societal change for greater inclusion and accessibility. See more

Vision

Persons with visual impairments will be identified as a creative workforce and have equal access to society as others.

Mission

  • VIPS is recognized as a resource organization for people with visual impairments.
  • The organization will have the capacity to cater to the requirements of visually impaired persons by focusing on IEC and other materials and establishing stakeholder networks at different levels.
  • The organization will have the capacity to identify the needs of advocacy, build capacity, and promote the rights of persons with disabilities.
  • The organization will have evidence-based documents focusing on the areas of rights and equal access to the development of visually impaired people.

Our Initiatives

VIPS advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities, including the enactment of a Disability Rights Act in line with UNCRPD. Key activities include promoting inclusive education, ICT access, and employment opportunities. VIPS provides Braille resources, capacity building for teachers, and various skills development training (e.g., computer, content writing, digital marketing). It also offers training in ICT, leadership, and advocacy. The organization supports self-help groups, offers motivation and counseling services, and provides legal aid and victim support. Additionally, VIPS focuses on orientation, mobility skills, and software training for visually impaired individuals.
